COVID-19 and sustained community transmission
During today’s COVID-19 Committee meeting, Dr. Cillian De Gascun and Professor Philip Nolan, both members of NPHET, both accepted there are areas or regions of the State where there is not believed to be, nor known to be, sustained human transmission of COVID-19.
That very much calls into question the ongoing basis for S.I. No. 120/2020 – Health Act 1947 (Affected Areas) Order 2020 made on the basis that “every area or region” of the State is an area where there is known or thought to be sustained human transmission of Covid-19.The legislation passed by the Oireachtas allows for restrictions in locations to which an affected areas order applies.
