Funding boost for East Clare
Clare Independent TD Michael McNamara has welcomed a funding boost for communities across East Clare.
Limerick & Clare Education & Training Board (LCETB) has been awarded €133,268 for a multi-sport facility at Scariff Community College while East Clare Golf Club has received €110,590 for the purpose of course works.
Deputy McNamara, who made representations to the Department of Tourism, Culture, Arts, Gaeltacht, Sport and Media on behalf of Scariff Community College and East Clare Golf Club, described the funding announcement as “a boost which will bring benefits to the wider community”.
The Scariff native added, “The provision of a new community sports facility at Scariff Community College will be of significant benefit to the people of Scariff/Tuamgraney and surrounding communities. I am delighted to see that East Clare Golf Club, which operates a very inclusive policy, has received the necessary funding to undertake course works.”
Deputy McNamara also congratulated other clubs in the locality for their successful applications. He welcomed the capital funding provided for the upgrade of the pitch at Scariff GAA Club of €118,502, €30,000 to Scariff Community Council to develop lighting for a community walking and jogging track, €7,893 to Bodyke GAA Club, €150,000 to Ogonnelloe Hurling Club for the development of an Indoor Astroturf Multipurpose Sports Facility, €114,000 to Killanena GAA Club for facilities improvements, €71,490 to Whitegate GAA Club for the upgrade of the clubhouse and lighting, and the €10,520 to Iniscealtra Sailing Club Ltd in Mountshannon for the upgrading of the toilet/shower block.
Deputy McNamara said the latest round of SCEP funding is a very positive one for East Clare in general.
“Sport and other physical activity have excellent health and social benefits and I believe this investment in community infrastructure in East Clare represents money well spent by the State,” concluded Deputy McNamara.
